A vegetation fire in Fairfield prompted the closure of westbound State Route 12 at Red Top Road, the Fairfield Fire Department said Thursday.

The fire was reported just before 11am and smoke was visible in nearby Cordelia. According to the fire brigade, no structures are threatened.

Fire officials said crews will remain on scene for several hours for cleanup efforts and that the vegetation fire’s progress has stopped as of 11:35 a.m. Officials reported that traffic was reduced to one lane at the eastbound intersection of I-80 as of 5 p.m.
