Vehicle crashes into utility pole in Pleasant Hill leaving hundreds without power

A traffic accident in Pleasant Hill Wednesday night closed a road and left hundreds of people in surrounding neighborhoods without power overnight and into Thursday morning, authorities said.

Pacific Gas and Electric’s outage map showed the outage was reported at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday night. When emergency responders arrived, they found a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole.

Pleasant Hill police reported that the crash forced the closure of Buskirk Avenue in both directions between Hookston Road and Oak Park Boulevard.

At 1 a.m. Thursday morning, police said the section of Buskirk Avenue would be closed indefinitely, and the closure also affected a County Connection bus stop. About an hour later, police said the closure was on Buskirk between Mayhew Way and the Crossroads Shopping Center.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, 513 PG&E customers in the area were still without power. The estimated restoration time was listed as 9 a.m. Thursday.

No further details about the crash were available at this time.
