CHICAGO (CBS) – Chicago police are searching for an armed group targeting residents in the South Shore neighborhood.
At least five robberies were reported in the morning and afternoon hours between October 20 and 31.
Chicago police said that in each incident, the robbers approached the victims on foot, brandishing a firearm and demanding wallets, purses and mobile devices.
Dates and locations of incidents:
- 7800 block of South Marquette on October 20 at 3 p.m
- 7800 block of South Phillips on October 29 at 11:50 am
- 7800 block of South Essex on October 29 at 8:38 p.m
- 7800 block of South Phillips on October 31 at 10:50 am
- 7800 block of South Phillips on October 31 at 3:57 p.m
The suspects were described as African-American males between the ages of 15 and 25, wearing face masks and all-black or dark clothing, armed with handguns.
Police advise the public:
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Keep an eye out for suspicious activity or people when entering and exiting your vehicle.
- Never resist during a robbery or pursue a fleeing attacker.
- Remember any unique characteristics of the perpetrator (scars, acne, teeth, tattoos, etc.)
- Never chase a fleeing attacker. Provide information to the police.
- If you are contacted by a witness to the incident, ask for their contact details.
- Call 9-1-1 immediately and stay on site if possible.
- Check any video surveillance for incidents and report any useful footage.
