Volkswagen, BMW top Tesla for new electric vehicles in Germany

According to registration data from the German Motor Transport Authority (KBA), sales of Tesla electric vehicles on the German market will continue to decline in 2024.

Billionaire Elon Musk’s brand is only in third place this year – behind the German car companies Volkswagen and BMW.

According to the KBA, around 49,200 fully electric Volkswagen vehicles have been newly registered in Germany so far in 2024, ahead of BMW’s 33,167 vehicles.

The number of registrations of new Tesla vehicles now stands at 31,461.

Both VW and Tesla are doing worse in the currently weakening battery-electric car market than they were at this time a year ago. The Volkswagen Group’s core brand had sold more than 9,400 more vehicles compared to this year, while Tesla sold 23,300 more.

BMW, on the other hand, is currently on a growth path in its home market and has an increase of 6,600 cars year-on-year.
