Each week, readers will vote for Central Indiana students nominated by their school for their excellence in the classroom and beyond.
Readers can vote for their favorite student at the bottom of this story all week on IndyStar.com. The polling stations close on Thursday, October 4 at 12 noon. The winners are announced every Friday.
This competition is intended to introduce readers not only to the student who ultimately wins, but also to all the highly talented nominees.
Here’s what the nominating school leaders had to say about this week’s nominees:
Desron Beauchamp, a sophomore at Ben Davis High School. “Dezy is creative, imaginative and innovative. Dezy ranks first in her second class and would be the first to tell you how much work and effort she put into the achievement. Dezy, along with the person who ranked second is in their class, his friends, but beyond that, they are a support network, offering each other a shoulder to lean on, a mind to brainstorm with, and overall just a fantastic person determined to make the most of every opportunity to nominate Dezy because she embodies the characteristics of “create, imagine, and innovate” because these three verbs illustrate the way she thinks about her time here at Ben Davis: she creates herself as a serious student concerned with academics, athletics and the school culture; she envisions a future and takes the steps and puts in the hard work to achieve that goal; she innovates her habits to be the best students, classmates, friends, and teammates to ensure that she is every day is a good day. By doing this, Dezy has transformed their perspectives. They are happy every day to take on the challenges that await them. She really is a great giant.”
