I was saddened to see the ballot language generated by the Ohio Secretary of State on the fair redistricting proposal, number 1. It was clearly intended to discourage a yes vote on this issue. We, as citizens, have long tried to find a solution to gerrymandering. The party in power has always drawn legislative district lines to elect their own candidates to office.
Problem 1 would leave out political parties, office holders and political agents. It would appoint a 15-member redistricting commission made up of an equal number of Democrats, Republicans and independents, with a flawless nomination and tenure process.
The bill is long and may seem cumbersome, but it covers the process in detail to avoid party involvement.
Members of both parties played an important role in its creation.
Join me in voting for number 1, fair redistribution.
