The tsunami of about 1,200 Walgreens store closures planned over the next three years has begun, with 58 locations closing their doors in November, the report said. Supermarket newsmonthly shopping card.

It’s been a tough year for Walgreens, that announced plans to close 1,200 stores during its October quarter results. Five hundred stores are expected to close by 2025.
Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth said during the earnings call that about 6,000 of the pharmacy chain’s 8,000 locations are profitable and that underperforming stores will have to close.
“Fiscal year 2025 will be an important year as we further develop our strategy to drive value creation,” Wentworth said in October. “This turnaround will take time, but we are confident it will deliver significant financial and consumer benefits in the long term.”

Meanwhile, more than two dozen of the Stop & Shop stores that are closed registered on the ScrapeHero analysis in late October, mainly in New Jersey and New York.
Dollar General also recorded 22 store closures nationwide in November, but the discount chain opened 61 stores this month.
Aldi more than doubled the number of store openings in November with 18 new locations, up from eight new stores the previous month.
