WASHINGTON — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has agreed to a vice presidential debate on Oct. 1, hosted by CBS News.

CBS News said in a statement that it has reached out to both presidential campaigns, but it is unclear whether the Republican vice presidential nominee, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, will participate in the debate in New York City.

Donald Trump’s campaign did not respond to States Newsroom’s request for comment.

“See you on October 1st, JD,” Walz wrote on X, in response to CBS.

CBS News gave both campaigns four dates to choose from for a vice presidential debate: September 17, September 24, October 1 and October 8.

Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris are scheduled for a presidential debate on September 10, hosted by ABC News.

The first presidential debate, hosted by CNN on June 27, led to President Joe Biden suspending his campaign after a disastrous performance that undermined his party’s confidence that the president could defeat Trump in November.
