(CBS DETROIT) — A high school football game in Warren was halted and the stadium evacuated Friday evening after a reported threat of gun violence.

In a Facebook post, John Bernia, Jr., superintendent of Warren Consolidated Schools, said a student made a “series of inappropriate comments” to a Warren Mott administrator during the Warren Mott-Cousino game.

The Cousino student was asked to leave but refused. Bernia said the administrator then referred the matter to Warren police.

According to Bernia, the police arrested the student and escorted him out of the stadium.

Bernia said police received a 911 call from someone stating that a student, who was at the game and left, was coming back with a gun and possibly shooting someone.

According to Bernia, the police said that the threat could be credible and decided to stop the match and evacuate the stadium.

Bernia said authorities investigated and determined that the description of the person who allegedly posed the threat matched the student who was arrested.

The school is sharing video footage from Friday evening with authorities and reporting what they can to police, Bernia said.

The match resumed and ended early Saturday afternoon.

Last week, a fight during a homecoming game in Westland led to several arrests. After the incident Wayne-Westland schools have implemented new safety measures for home football games, including guest restrictions and adult supervision for all minors.
