Stephen Curry will sit out a third straight game for the Golden State Warriors on Saturday in Houston with a left ankle injury, but resumed practice on Friday with some exercises.
He was re-evaluated earlier in the day and the Warriors’ medical staff determined the NBA career three-point leader was making good progress and was cleared to participate, the team said.
Curry will be reexamined Sunday ahead of Golden State’s game Monday in Washington. He was injured a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday evening. The 36-year-old Curry, who started his 16th season, underwent an MRI examination after the game and the showed no structural damage and showed a left peroneal strain.
After Wednesday’s home win against New OrleansCurry reported that he “felt better” when he left the locker room.
Curry left for good with 7:55 left the fourth quarter of a 112-104 loss.
He had returned briefly with 8:08 to play and was along the key defended by Kris Dunn when he cut away from Dunn toward the baseline and re-injured the ankle as it appeared to roll outward. It happened at the end of Golden State’s bench and he limped into the tunnel leading to the locker room.
It was at the 2:43 mark of the third quarter when Curry initially staggered to the bench and remained seated for the remainder of the period.
The two-time MVP has regularly had ankle problems in both feet.
Also Friday, his strained lower back was reevaluated by guard De’Anthony Melton and he will also sit out a third straight game on Saturday and be checked out again in a week.
