Warwick is one of the safest cities in America, according to a new ranking.
The personal finance company WalletHub just released its list of the safest cities in America, and Warwick came in at number 3. To determine what it means to be the safest, WalletHub looked at statistics on home and community safety, natural disaster safety and financial safety.
“The safest cities in America protect residents from these threats of physical harm and property damage, but they also help keep people safe financially,” said a WalletHub analyst.
This is why Warwick took one of the top spots.
Why is Warwick one of the safest cities in America?
WalletHub ranked Warwick as one of the safest cities in America due to its low crime rates: the city has the lowest murder rate, the second-lowest aggravated assault rate, and the fewest thefts per capita.
“When it comes to natural disasters, Warwick is the city with the seventh lowest risk of hail, the tenth lowest risk of wildfires, the 23rd lowest risk of tornadoes and the 29th lowest risk of earthquakes,” according to WalletHub.
The research also found that Warwick scored well in financial security. The city has the seventh lowest percentage of residents without health insurance and the sixth lowest percentage living in poverty.
WalletHub looked at 182 cities when creating their rankings, “including the 150 most populous U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populous cities in each state,” according to a press release. The cities were assessed on 41 measuring points.

How the safest cities were measured
To measure the safest cities, WalletHub said it examined three factors: the safety of homes and communities, the risk of natural disasters and financial security.
These factors were divided into further categories to calculate the scores for each city.
The scores totaled 100 and were weighted to find the average, so higher scores indicate a better ranking. Warwick’s score was 70.33.
