May 27 – A vehicle collision involving a Washington State Patrol car and another vehicle closed a portion of Interstate 90 for four hours Monday.

The drivers of each vehicle are being treated at the hospital for minor injuries, said Cole Jackson, a public information officer with the State Patrol.

Around 10 a.m., the two vehicles collided on the westbound side of the highway near exit 286 at Broadway Avenue in east Spokane.

Officers closed a section of the highway while investigators took notes at the scene.

“Anytime a patrol car is involved in a collision, we have to take measurements on the scene and document it,” Jackson said.

Officers diverted traffic to take the Broadway exit, cross the overpass and rejoin the freeway at the adjacent on-ramp.

The closure lasted about four hours. State Patrol opened two of the four lanes around 2:20 p.m. and the rest of the highway at 3 p.m.

Jackson said the officer involved in the crash did not pursue another vehicle or attempt to pass the other car involved in the crash.

The cause of the collision, the error and possible citations remain under investigation, Jackson said.
