Watch as A oddly loses after McCann somehow misses home plate

Watch A’s lose in bizarre fashion after McCann somehow misses home plate originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Well, you don’t see that every day.

Impressively, the Athletics failed to score with a runner crossing home plate – fitting considering their recent play on the road.

In the second inning of the A’s game against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday at Angel Stadium, a stumbling Kyle McCann missed home plate after going around third base on a double by Max Schuemann.

A’s catcher would ultimately be ruled out, not because of the accident, but because of a subsequent one.

After a lengthy replay review, McCann was called out for hooking up with his newest A’s teammate, Armando Alvarez – the baseball gods are really hard on Oakland.

Alvarez, making his first career MLB start on Tuesday, tried to help his A’s teammate stay upright as McCann followed him on the base path, eager to score.

Unfortunately for Alvarez, despite natural human instincts and reflexes, he was wrong for making contact with McCann, resulting in the final out of the inning.

The A’s were ready for a big inning with the top of the lineup in sight, but instead easily dismissed the Angels. To make matters worse, Los Angeles didn’t even attempt to go home — causing unnecessary embarrassment to Oakland.

The A’s, losers of four straight games and in the midst of a season-worst 10-game streak, could really do without the damaging drama. Oakland has also dropped four straight series in Anaheim.

For now, the A’s appeared to be on the right track in today’s series finale. But instead of a few fist bumps and high fives in the dugout for what was supposed to be a 2-0 lead in Oakland, the young duo likely landed a prime spot on blooper reels.

McCann and Alvarez, two rookies, won’t make the same mistakes again, will they?
