(CBS DETROIT) – Detroit City FC concludes its 2024 regular season home schedule this Saturday, taking on Miami FC in an Eastern Conference battle. Kick-off from Keyworth is at 4pm. The game will be broadcast locally on CW Detroit 50 (WKBD-TV). Supporters in Michigan can stream the game for free at CBSDetroit.com.
A win for Detroit City FC would put them on the cusp of a top-four finish in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship. They would then need either Tampa or Indy to drop points later in the evening to secure a first-ever USL Championship Playoff match at home.
DCFC comes into this match with a 0-0 draw against Eastern Conference rival Indy Eleven. It was a struggle in the attacking third for both sides, but both back lines would get clean sheets for both sides.
Detroit City secured a spot in the 2024 USL Championship play-offs with the draw. This is the third year in a row that DCFC has participated in the USL Championship play-offs. In their very first appearance in 2022, Le Rouge would fall 3-1 to Memphis 901 FC in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. DCFC would enjoy even more success in 2023 as they would eliminate Players Shield winners Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC 1-0 in the Eastern Conference quarter-finals. They would fall 4-0 to Louisville City FC in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Miami FC are coming into this match in a tough run of form as of late, having not picked up a point in their last six matches. In those six games, Miami has failed to score a goal. The team from South Florida suffered a 4-0 defeat against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Central defender Junior Palacios received a red card in the 89th minute, meaning he will miss this match against Le Rouge.
On Wednesday, Miami announced the departure of Head Coach Antonio Nocerino. USL Academy Head Coach Marcello Alves will serve as interim head coach for the final two games of the 2024 season.
While the battle for the final spots in the USL Championship playoffs keeps the clubs within points of each other, Miami FC couldn’t be further away from the playoffs. Miami has collected just 11 points this season and sits at the bottom of the standings, 29 points clear of Hartford Athletic, which sits 11th in the Eastern Conference.
Since Detroit City’s 4-0 win over Miami in late June, Miami has played 15 games and picked up just three points, a 1-0 win over Monterey Bay FC on August 31. In those games, Miami scored just eight goals and conceded 40.
Le Rouge concludes the 2024 regular season this Saturday in San Antonio, taking on Western Conference opponent San Antonio FC. Kickoff is set for 8:30 PM ET. Tickets for all Detroit City games can be found at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
