We dream of a wet Christmas

ELMIRA, NY (WETM) – A rain/snow mix will keep things wet overnight. We will have a small window to dry out of this latest low pressure area on Thursday. However, there is another front that will bring with it an Arctic cold front that will first bring some rain and eventually a dusting of snow. But the bigger story is the drastically cold air that the clipper system will pour into the Twin Tiers on Friday. Temperatures will become more seasonal before the bitterly cold air arrives here to start the Christmas weekend.

That slightly warmer high pressure will follow over the weekend, at least the first half. Then for the second half, look for heavy and dense Arctic air to return to the Twin Tiers so temperatures become more like the North Pole! Overnight lows in the single digits for us early next week.

Cloudy around 30 degrees tonight with a mix of rain and light snow. Then mid to upper thirty degrees with starting clouds, followed by some clearance on Thursday. Then the cold air finds us and we gradually drop the mercury for the rest of the week into the next week.
