Weather changes Saturday action in North Wilkesboro: Truck Series postponed, heat races canceled

Heavy rain and intermittent lightning changed Saturday’s All-Star Weekend schedule at North Wilkesboro Speedway, leading to the postponement of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and the cancellation of both 60-lap Cup Series qualifying heats.

Saturday’s Truck Series race begins Sunday at 11:30 a.m. ET on FS1, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. The Wright Brand 250 started on time and was stopped after 81 of the scheduled 250 laps had been completed. The race was halted by a brief rainstorm and lightning, and a downpour around 3:30 PM ET soaked the 0.625-mile track.

With both 60-lap qualifying heats for Sunday’s All-Star Race canceled, the lineup will be determined based on Saturday’s qualifying results, according to the NASCAR Rule Book. This means that Team Penske driver Joey Logano will start from pole position, flanked by Brad Keselowski next to him. Christopher Bell, whose No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team won the Pit Crew Challenge, will finish third. Daniel Suárez and Chris Buescher complete the top five.

Sunday’s All-Star race time remains at 8 p.m. on FS1, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. The All-Star Open event, in which the top two drivers will advance to the All-Star Race, is scheduled for 5:30 PM ET.

Rain also canceled Saturday morning’s Craftsman Truck Series qualifying, forcing the lineup to be set according to the NASCAR Rule Book and putting series points leader Christian Eckes in first place for the green flag. Eckes led the first 62 laps before Ty Majeski took control and won Stage 1.

Rain showers provided a brief afternoon period of sunshine, allowing qualifying for the NASCAR All-Star Race to take place.
