OWATONNA, Minn. – The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 35 in Owatonna amid Wednesday’s snowfall.

A pickup truck driven by a 25-year-old Owatonna man went off the highway around 7:41 a.m. and ended up in a ditch near Steele County Road 9, the State Patrol says.

There were two young passengers in the truck: a boy and a four-year-old girl, both from Owatonna.

Unfortunately, the little boy died in the crash.

From midnight to 3 p.m., there were 121 other reported crashes, 14 of which resulted in injuries, according to the State Patrol.

Thirty-two vehicles drove off highways across the state, while five semis were knifed across Interstate 94 in a two-hour span near the town of Downer, a few miles southwest of Moorhead.
