The weather for Sunday couldn’t have been better. There was some rain at first, but temperatures were generally mild, with a high of 80 degrees.
Today’s bands closing out the fest include Breaking Benjamin, Evanescence, Sum 41 and Slipknot.
Oh, and if you look to the southeast around 8:53 p.m., you might even see the launch of the SpaceX Starlink rocket from Cape Canaveral.
Check back often for observations on the infield scene, interviews with fans and a look at the lineup of non-musical distractions, among other dispatches from the heart of Rockville in Daytona Beach.
Everyone is talking about pickpockets
Six Colombian nationals were arrested Friday in a wave of thefts of wallets and cellphones during the party. Volusia sheriff’s deputies arrested two more people Saturday evening.
Facebook had a lot to say about it. RockVillians, a Welcome to Rockville fan page, had many posts about the thefts
“So aren’t we going to talk about the 200+ stolen phones? The police have arrested several people involved and are returning everyone’s phones. If you know someone who has had their phone stolen, tell them to have a friend call the phone! A detective will answer and get your phone back!”
“The police officer we spoke with said this is the largest theft of stolen phones they’ve ever had in Daytona, and they’re confident it involved more people than they’ve arrested to date.” –Natalie Rousa
“Folks, I caught a guy doing this Day 1 at Skillet… he was wearing normal clothes, but mostly not party clothes (no bands or outfits, party shirts, etc.). They are moving sideways for no reasonable purpose (not towards the stage or out of the area, just moving against people. They almost always work in pairs or maybe three if someone is the bagman. They usually work on the edge of the pit and they sweep around the outside of your pockets to feel an imprint If you catch them, it’s a simple hand slip in a mosh pit, completely normal.” – LJ Toles
Keep an eye on your stuff and your neighbor folks.
