With the Athletics’ move to Sacramento looming, many players around the MLB have voiced their thoughts on the organization.

In a recent MLB player survey from The Athletic, there were many strong opinions about the A’s move and the state of the franchise.

“I mean, have you seen what they’re doing to the city of Oakland and their fans?,” said an anonymous player.

“It doesn’t look like they want to win,” said another player.

“I hear Oakland is pretty rough,” one anonymous player explained. ‘Sacramento for three years? I’ve been to that ballpark before. Can’t they find anything better?”

Given the acrimonious relationship between the A’s and their fans in recent years, it’s no surprise that players across the league have negative opinions of the organization.

Team owner John Fisher has developed a negative reputation among fans and the league for several reasons, including the team’s lengthy discussions with the city of Oakland over a new ballpark that often yielded little to no progress for years, prompting the franchise to move to Las Vegas and the team’s low wages.

With the new stadium on the Vegas Strip not expected to be completed until the start of the 2028 MLB season, Fisher and the A’s decided to let their lease on the Oakland Coliseum expire, much to the dismay of fans.

Instead of staying at the Coliseum, the team will spend three seasons at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, currently home to the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate River Cats.

The move ends 56 years of professional baseball in Oakland, leaving the city without a major professional sports franchise for the first time since 1959.
