It’s election day. Millions of voters in the US will go to the polls and make their choice for the next president. Here’s what to expect when the race ends between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

Frequently asked questions about voting: First, check your polling place and whether your state requires ID. From there: Read the rules about taking selfies at the polls, whether you can wear political swag, and whether you can bring your kids. [Yahoo News]

When the polling stations close: Polls begin closing at 6:00 PM ET through 12:00 PM ET. All eyes will be on seven swing states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – that will likely decide the election. [Yahoo News]

Waiting for results: Patience is the key. The race is historically close, so it could take days to determine who won. “As margins tighten, more ballots will be needed to count before we can call a race,” said David Becker of the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation & Research. [Yahoo News]

Kate: Where do I start? Democrats have a slim majority in the Senate, and I’ll be keeping an eye on the races in Montana and Ohio, where Republicans are looking for victories. In the Republican Party-controlled House, Democrats hope to reverse power by gaining more seats in California and New York.

Kate: There are nearly 150, but abortion-related measures are among the largest you’ll see on the ballot today. My guide digs into the 10 states that will have them.

Kate: Many people will see ballot measures related to legalizing marijuana use and protecting LGBTQ+ issues – all at the state level. It’s a lot, so I recommend using this sample voting tool to see what’s on your ballot before you head to the polls.
