In November, incumbent Republican Marc Molinaro will face Democrat Josh Riley in the race for a seat in New York’s 19th Congressional District.
In 2022, Molinaro won 51.1% of the vote, defeating Riley in the election.
This is what you need to know about the rematch on November 5.
Marc Molinaro (right)
Molinaro, a native of Yonkers, previously served in the Dutchess County Legislature and in 2006 was a member of the New York State Assembly for the 103rd District. He served as Dutchess County Executive from 2011 until his election to Congress in 2023.
Problems:
-
In 2015, Molinaro founded ThinkDIFFERENTLY, a program to encourage Dutchess County to remove barriers for residents with disabilities.
-
Molinaro is in favor of stricter border security, saying current border regulations allow illegal drugs to enter the United States and impact local communities.
Josh Riley (D)
Riley, a native of Endicott and an attorney, served as an aide to Congressman Maurice Hinchey and worked on raising the minimum wage as a fellow on the staff of Senator Ted Kennedy’s Labor & Pensions Committee. Riley also served as a policy analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor and as counsel in the Senate.
Problems:
-
Riley called the current campaign finance system a “cesspool” and worked as a Senate attorney to push for a constitutional amendment to repeal Citizens United.
-
Riley has promised to strengthen the middle class and “give working families a fair shot at getting ahead.”
