What’s with sex obsession? Anti-Sherrod Brown attack ads miss real issues.

What about the sex obsession?

I’m writing this in response to hearing for the 400th time that Senator Sherrod Brown is too liberal for Ohio based on his tolerance of transgender people, and that Bernie Moreno is the answer.

Why is sex something that is so scary to people?

Children are regularly slaughtered by gun violence. Politicians just shake (or bow) their heads and say nothing can be done.

In Ohio, the answer was to give everyone universal access to transportation, without universal background checks. Sherrod Brown has proposed stricter background checks. Bernie says it’s society, he says nothing about how he would cure it. Just what we need, another ‘thoughts and prayers’ guy.

Children are preyed upon by first-person shooter video games and movies, with Las Vegas-style body counts, and yet sex, or talking about it, or knowing about it, is what we should be afraid of for them?

They are also beset by the thought that they will be shot at school. What poses the existential threat to our children: sex or guns?

Vote for reality. Vote for Sherrod Brown.

Better volunteer work than worrying and complaining

For the fourth year, I have been trained by the Franklin County Board of Elections on how to act as a “roster judge” – the person who checks identification to ensure he or she is eligible to vote.

I was a trainer by profession. The content of this training is impressive and thorough. I always leave thinking, “They’ve thought of everything.”

If you do not have confidence in the security and integrity of the election process, I strongly encourage you to serve as a volunteer in your local county and experience it for yourself.

They may still be looking for volunteers for November 5.

As a Democrat, I commend the team led by Republican Frank LaRose, Ohio Secretary of State, for the thorough integrity of their operation. I have a lot of confidence in our election system.

Ohio children are not being nurtured and protected

The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies recently reported that Ohio’s 2022 child poverty rate was 17.7%.

According to the report, nearly one-fifth of children under the age of six in Ohio were living in poverty in 2022, and about 18% were living in poverty between the ages of six and 11, while 15.9% were between the ages of 12 and 17. also live in poverty.

Additionally, 23% of children in Ohio experience poor housing conditions, and 14.8% are food insecure. And to make matters worse, 86,000 Ohio children were disenrolled from Medicaid programs between March and September 2023; 4.6% are uninsured. This is beyond scandalous!

Folks, children are more precious than words; they need to be nurtured, protected and nourished so that they can develop fully.

The state of affairs described in the OACAA report is perhaps the worst example (of many) of continued corrupt, inept governance by Ohio’s elected officials. Where is their humanity and compassion? This insensitivity and contempt must end. Now. Don’t forget to vote on November 5.
