What were the results of the 2024 presidential election?
By early Wednesday morning, Donald Trump was expected to have won Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. With the two swing states, Trump passed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency over Vice President Kamala Harris. Although the votes are still being counted, it also appears that Trump will win the popular vote.
Trump is the first president since Grover Cleveland 132 years ago to lose office and win again four years later.
When will the elections be approved?
Congress will validate the election results on January 6, 2025.
When is the opening day?
Trump will take the oath of office around noon on January 20, 2025 and then officially take power.
What is the presidential oath of office?
The President-elect takes the following oath in accordance with Article II, Section I of the United States Constitution:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
The Vice President-elect will be sworn in in the presence of the President-elect and will repeat the same oath of office as U.S. Senators, Representatives, and other federal employees:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, domestic and foreign; that I will show true faith and loyalty to it; that I freely undertake this obligation, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office I am about to hold: So help me God.
