When will we know who won the election? This is when the presidency is called

It’s likely we’ll know late tonight or early tomorrow morning whether voters passed local school taxes, opted to retain Ohio incumbents like U.S. Congresswoman Emilia Sykes or Senator Sherrod Brown, or changed the way Ohio draws its congressional and state legislative maps.

But experts from across the country agree it could be days before we know whether Harris will become the first female US president or whether Trump will return to the White House. In 2020, Joe Biden was not declared the winner until the Saturday after Tuesday’s election.

In 2016, around 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday after the election, the presidential race was called for Trump. In 2012, Mitt Romney conceded the race to Barack Obama at about 1 a.m

Polls in Ohio close at 7:30 p.m. In a presidential swing state like Nevada, polls close at 10 PM ET. The last polling places close are Alaska, which is 1 a.m. ET.
