Many Jets fans didn’t like how McGroarty and his team handled the situation and when Pittsburgh came to Winnipeg they had an interesting chant for the Penguins.
Rutger McGroarty was not in the Penguins’ lineup as he was sent to AHL Wilkes-Barre Scranton after failing to record any points in three games to start the season.
It’s certainly not the end of McGroarty’s time in the NHL, but it was comical for Winnipeg fans that their former top prospect didn’t get what he wanted. Jets fans were likely energized as they watched their team defeat the Penguins 6-3 and extend their perfect record on the season to 5-0-0.
In exchange for McGroarty, the Jets received prospect Brayden Yager, who currently plays in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors.
