The Atlantic Ocean could see its first hurricane of 2024 before July. Is Florida in danger for Beryl?
Tropical Storm Beryl formed Friday evening and is barreling west at 21 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. It is forecast to become a hurricane Saturday evening or Sunday, and AccuWeather says if it stays away from land it could quickly become a major hurricane.
Named storms this early in the season are rare, let alone major hurricanes. AccuWeather said seven named storms formed in the Atlantic Ocean before the Fourth of July. According to Weather Underground, there have only been four hurricanes that have reached Category 3 status (sustained winds of 111-129 mph) before the end of June.
Should Floridians Be Worried? AccuWeather forecasters said Beryl could move through Central America or into the western Gulf of Mexico next weekend. Further eastward movement could be a cause for concern for Florida. Here’s what the latest spaghetti models say:
