Channel 9 is monitoring several wildfires in Central Florida this weekend.

Update:

The Volusia County Fire Department said Saturday’s Osteen fire covered 250 acres, growing from last week’s 600-acre fire.

It is 25% contained and people can see the fires up to 300 meters away from the main fire.

Volusia County Fire Rescue said the main issue was high winds from the east.

Crews open Pell Road so residents can return to their homes.

They are also working on the containment lines tonight.

Fire crews will check to see if anything not burned within those lines is burned. Residents can expect more fire and smoke if that happens.

Residents are told that visibility will be very poor tonight.

Drive slowly, stay indoors and don’t light a fire.

The wind has died down and conditions have improved marginally, but enough to cause these burns.

Ocoee police said firefighters battled a brush fire near West Oaks Mall earlier on Saturday.

Police said businesses near the West Oaks Mall and Clark Road were evacuated.

Police had asked residents to avoid the area on the south side, including near the bus stops.
