The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week poll for the week of October 7 is now live.
The nominations for the Oklahoman’s Student of the Week contest are in and the polls are now open for voting for the best of the best.
The Oklahoman asked superintendents, principals, teachers and guidance counselors from across the Oklahoma City area to participate in the Student of the Week program by submitting nominations for their student.
Readers now choose the best of the best in our survey. This week’s poll has ten candidates.
The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week poll is at the bottom of the list of nominees. You can vote once per hour until closing time.
Last week’s winner: Julieana Montalvan Campuza is the Oklahoman’s Student of the Week.
Voting is possible until Thursday, October 10 at 12 noon.
Nominations for next week’s poll will also be accepted through Thursday at 5 p.m. To nominate a student, school faculty can email StudentOfTheWeek@oklahoman.com.

Addison Hatcher, Norman High School: Hatcher, a senior, is an honor student who is always trying to prepare herself for the future academically. She has a GPA of 3.9 while a member of the Math Accelerated Study Based on Excellence through Guidance, Industry and Scholarship (AEGIS) class, a course that goes beyond the AP course by covering calculus topics at a deeper level . In addition to her current classes, she enrolled in concurrent courses.

Campbell Morris, Christian School in Oklahoma: Morris is a 4.22 GPA student who is at the top of his class. He is taking concurrent courses while taking classes with both OCS and Francis Tuttle in their advanced technical preparation program. Morris was recently named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Contest. In addition to his academics, he volunteers in community service and is an active member of the school’s National Honor Society chapter.

Jair Quinonez, Jones High School: Quinonez is an exceptional student who is expected to be a valedictorian. In addition to taking numerous AP classes, he takes concurrent college classes. He is president of the National Honor Society and is deeply involved in our leadership and core clubs. He manages his academic excellence and is a four-year varsity cross country and track and field athlete. At the end of his junior year, he also participated in the American Legion Boys State. “Jair is the type of student that every teacher wants because he will excel and try to be the best at whatever he tries,” said Curtis Moses, dean of students.

Abbygail King, Purcell High School: King, a senior, is graduating with honors and currently has a weighted GPA of 4.14. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Superintendent’s Honor Roll, and is a two-year officer with Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). In addition to maintaining her academics, she is a talented musician who serves as the Dragon Pride Marching Band Drum Major, a member of the 2021 2A State Champion Band, qualified for the Southwestern Oklahoma Band Directors Association (SWOBDA), and is currently a member of the Band Leadership Council. “Abby combines talent, intelligence, work ethic and a great personality to serve as a student leader in our school and community. She treats everyone with respect and I have personally enjoyed getting to know Abby,” said Principal Jason Sanders.

Lane Moring, Newcastle Secondary School: Moring is a 4.0 student and will graduate with honors as valedictorian. He demonstrates academic excellence and pushes himself to achieve more. He is also currently taking concurrent classes. In addition to maintaining his academic excellence, he is a national-level gymnast. “Despite his academic and athletic successes, he is one of the most humble people you will ever meet.” says aviation teacher Jordan Heatly. His chemistry and earth science teacher said, “He is rightly a wonderful student, friend, laboratory partner and deserves several recognitions that his humility would make him hesitate to accept.”

Lilybeth Springer, Bethel High School: Springer is an exceptional high school student who consistently demonstrates academic excellence and a deep commitment to her community. One of the top students in her class, she takes on challenges by taking college and graduate level courses, demonstrating her intellectual curiosity and dedication to her education. In addition to her academic achievements, she is actively involved in volunteer work at a local animal shelter where she is currently interning. She is also an active member of her local 4H and FFA club, where she shows goats, improves her leadership skills, and deepens her knowledge of agriculture.

Cash Sharp, Wayne High School: Sharp, a senior, is an honor student with a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Wayne Band. While continuing his teaching, he is also taking college courses and plans to pursue a career in film production and writing. In addition to making his academic excellence a priority, he has written and acted in multiple productions for the school’s drama productions. “He is a great conversationalist and an exemplary student. He is a leader within our band and maintains a positive attitude no matter the situation,” said counselor Michelle Matthews.

Ainsley Jennings, Little Ax High School: Jennings is an honor student with a 4.58 student GPA and has held many leadership roles. She is actively involved in the National Honor Society, Student Council, Business Professionals of America and Future Farmers of America. In addition to maintaining her academic excellence, she is active in many sports, including fastpitch softball, golf and slowpitch softball, and was a state qualifier and member of the 2024 3A girls state championship wrestling team. Last summer she attended Girls State and last spring she page for Rep. Danny Sterling. “Ainsley is the definition of a servant leader and the school is a better place because of her,” said Assistant Principal Amie Lampkin.

River Michael-Bread, Western Heights High School: Michael-Bread is an honor student who is highly respected by all teachers and students. Not only does he place a high priority on academics, he is also culturally knowledgeable and promotes his heritage to others. In addition to maintaining academic excellence, he plays basketball, runs track, plays piano and is captain of the cross country team. “He is smart and capable, always 110% committed to everything; everyone at Western Heights is honored to be a small part of his life and personal growth,” said advisor Ren Wilson.

Hailey Chartney, Luther High School: Chartney, a junior, is an honor student who challenges herself academically in all her classes, as well as participating in concurrent courses through Rose State College. She exemplifies great student character and leadership as she serves on the student council and is part of the cheerleading and competition squad. While maintaining her academic excellence, she is involved with an extracurricular team, Cheer4Christ, a competitive cheer squad that travels and competes at a high level. “I think Hailey deserves this honor because she stands out and shines brightly at LHS,” said teacher Kimberley Pelletier.
