NEW YORK — The New York City weather forecast calls for rain today, but will the skies clear in time for the Fourth of July fireworks?

According to CBS New York’s First Alert Weather team, the show will most likely go on.

After 2:00 or 3:00 PM, thunderstorms are expected to develop partly inland, then move towards the coast during dusk.

Now that the heating is gone during the day, activity will decrease or even disappear. That’s good news!

That said, the chance of thunderstorms during the fireworks is about 20%, so make sure you have a poncho or umbrella handy, but expect to get what you came for.

So, what happens after the 4th? Well, it looks like the forecast doesn’t change much: Hot, sticky, and a bit unsettled, unfortunately.

But as we’ve been saying all along: no day seems like a disaster, so don’t expect more than an interruption here and there.

Fortunately, Sunday offers some hope, with higher pressure nearby, more sunshine and virtually no chance of rain.
