The 49ers will be without a pair of starters and one key backup on “Thursday Night Football,” with Trent Williams, Ben Bartch and Malik Mustapha all ruled out for the team’s NFC West division matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Jaylon Moore will continue to hold the left tackle position as Williams will miss his fourth straight game due to an ankle injury. Aaron Banks will resume his spot at left guard as Batch will remain injured through the end of the season due to a high ankle sprain.
The 53-man roster spot vacated by Batch will be filled by linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who could make his season debut in 2024 after suffering an Achilles injury in Super Bowl LVIII 10 months ago. Greenlaw is listed as questionable on the game status report, which is normal procedure for a player returning from IR.
In addition to Greenlaw, starting safety pair Talanoa Hufanga and Ji’Ayir Brown will play. The Penn State product was pushed back to a No. 3 role when Mustapha got the start against the Chicago Bears. Mustapha was sidelined this short week due to a chest/shoulder injury. Veteran safety Tashaun Gipson is also in the mix to play if Brown struggles.
Nick Bosa, who has missed three games due to a lingering hip/oblique injury, could also make his return to the field. The All-Pro pass rusher is listed as questionable and could add firepower to a defensive line that recorded six sacks in Sunday’s win. Three of those came from NFC Defensive Player of the Week Yetur Gross-Matos.
Rookie running back Isaac Guerendo is set to get his second career start after being sidelined with a foot sprain near the end of the 49ers’ Week 14 win over the Bears. After missing practice on Tuesday, the starting running back is listed as questionable.
