Windy believes Warriors’ top prospect will make ‘major trade’ at deadline originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Warriors have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA this season, racing to a fast 7-1 start and sharing the No. 1 seed in the stacked Western Conference.
You might think you shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken, but one NBA insider believes Golden State could be hungry for more before the league’s trade deadline on Feb. 6.
“They may not want to do anything with this roster because this roster is so good, but the Warriors are the top candidate in my mind to make a big trade,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on “First Take” Thursday morning. “They tried to trade for LeBron James at the last trade deadline. I know that was one of the most amazing stories of last year, that those trade talks fell through. OK, that didn’t happen.
“Then they tried to trade for Paul George. Then they tried to trade for Lauri Markkanen. This is a team with an itchy trigger finger trying to make a big deal. The values of all these players increase as this happens. Now they are may not want to get into what they’re doing, but this team has their draft picks for the future, they’ve got all these guys and they’ve cut their payroll by $50 million.”

Golden State preached about its depth all offseason and preseason, and its confidence in its strength in numbers has held true thus far.
The Warriors rank first in bench points, with the most points per game of any team not benched this season, with 59.4 per game.
But is the early success sustainable, and is it enough for Mike Dunleavy, Joe Lacob and Co.?
Windhorst was asked if there are any specific players he’s heard the Warriors could keep an eye on, to which he responded that we’ll “have to wait and see.” However, he confirmed his belief that they will be a team to watch in the coming months.
“I just know it’s something they’ve been kicking around,” Windhorst said. “So they’re a team that not only has so much going for them right now, but they also have what it takes to potentially make a trade down the road.”
