The winter storm that Heavy weather team 2 that was tracked all week is now making its way to North Georgia.
Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says the Winter Storm Warning has been updated to begin at 5 a.m. That is two hours earlier than originally issued.
“Overall, the message is still the same,” Nitz said. “The significant impacts will be caused by snow, sleet and freezing rain.”

The significant consequences will be snow, sleet and freezing rain.
In some areas it may become difficult to impossible to travel and power outages are possible.

Monahan says while the snow and sleet are moving in, the air is still dry across most of North Georgia, so you won’t see anything falling to the ground yet. That will change as the morning progresses.

FlightAware shows that nearly 500 flights have been canceled at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The winter storm now moving into Georgia caused problems in Texas and Oklahoma. Most of the flight cancellations are from Southwest, which is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

The snow and sleet are starting to move into parts of North Georgia.
Meteorologist Eboni Deon says most areas will start out with snow and transition more to a wintry mix by late morning or early afternoon.
The roads will change rapidly in the coming hours.
