The Wisconsin Supreme Court said Friday it will decide whether to include Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s name. stay on the ballot for the fall president.
Kennedy has been trying to get his name off the ballots in key states since suspending his campaign in August and endorsing former President Donald Trump. At the same time, he has said his supporters can continue to support him in most other states where votes for him are unlikely to affect the outcome.
Earlier this month, the North Carolina Supreme Court removed him from the rolls, while the Michigan Supreme Court and a federal judge in Detroit said his name would remain.
Kennedy filed a lawsuit in Wisconsin on Sept. 3 asking to have his name removed, but a Dane County judge said candidates must remain on the ballot unless they die.
The state Supreme Court agreed to a request to skip a Wisconsin appeals court and settle the dispute, saying the justices would read the memos and likely rule without hearing arguments, and that a decision would come as “expeditiously as possible.”
Attorneys for the Wisconsin Elections Commission said the case must be resolved quickly, as clerks have already begun mailing out ballots with Kennedy’s name on them.
