With help from witnesses, Boise police arrest man for ‘serious’ downtown collision

Boise police identified the suspect in a hit-and-run incident Saturday evening with the help of witnesses.

Two pedestrians, both women, were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries at the corner of 11th and Main streets in downtown Boise just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a Boise Police Department news release on Sunday. Department.

The suspect, a 46-year-old Boise man, is accused of hitting pedestrians and then driving away. He also hit other vehicles as he fled, police said.

Witnesses followed the driver and he was apprehended and taken into custody near East Parkcenter Boulevard and Pennsylvania Street, the news release said. He was then taken to a local hospital and after his release, he was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death and booked into the Ada County Jail.

“Last night, this individual’s irresponsible actions caused serious injuries to two of our community members,” Capt. Jim Quackenbush of the Boise Police Department said in the news release. “We thank the many witnesses who acted quickly to provide immediate assistance and everyone who came forward with information about this tragic event. Our officers will continue to work with the community to strictly enforce the law, particularly in relation to vulnerable road users in the city center.”

Boise police closed a portion of Main Street and asked drivers to avoid a section of downtown between Main and Idaho Streets from 6th and 11th Streets. The roads have since reopened.

An accident reconstruction team and a violent crimes unit went to the scene to investigate, police said.

As part of the investigation, Boise Police officers want to speak with anyone who witnessed or whose vehicle was damaged in the incident. Police also asked that any businesses on Main Street between 13th and 5th streets with video footage of Main Street contact the department.
