Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker announced Sunday that Katrina Nguyen has been charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, leaving the scene causing death, leaving the scene causing personal injury, leaving the scene causing property damage and operating a motor vehicle. after suspension.
Nguyen is expected to be arraigned in Lawrence Superior Court on Monday.
Interstate 495 hit and run
A 37-year-old man and a 41-year-old man died in the crash on the northbound side of I-495 around 6 a.m. Saturday. Two other people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
All four people were in a pickup truck that struck a tree in the median, trapping them in the badly damaged vehicle. Police have not released the names of the crash victims.
According to police, the driver of a second vehicle failed to stop at the scene of the crash. Massachusetts State Police said Saturday they were searching for the driver.
Nguyen later turned himself in to Lawrence police.
People who live and work in the area tell WBZ-TV that cars in the area regularly drive too fast. It is unclear whether speed played a role in Saturday’s accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police and the Essex District Attorney’s office.
