PATERSON – A 54-year-old city woman died Sunday from injuries she suffered in a stabbing the day before. She is Paterson’s 10th homicide victim of the year, according to law enforcement sources.
The victim and her accused attacker, a 37-year-old woman, were neighbors living in the same apartment building on Park Ave. 71 lived there, said Councilman Luis Velez, who represents Paterson’s 5th Ward where the crime occurred. Velez said he knew the deceased woman and said she had several children.
“She was not a troublemaker,” Velez said of the deceased. “She was a family-oriented person.”
Velez said the two women knew each other and had an argument, but he said he didn’t know exactly what their conflict was about.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office announced Saturday afternoon that Quadasia Pierce had been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing. When that press release was issued, the victim was still alive.
As of Monday evening, the prosecutor’s office had not released any updated information about the crime. Authorities have also not released the victim’s name.
At least five of Paterson’s 10 homicides in 2024 have occurred in the city’s 5th Ward, according to data from police officials.
The city’s homicide rate remains far behind its 2023 pace. At this point in 2023, Paterson had experienced 17 homicides.
