Woman invited to Daytona Beach apartment raped by self-described hitman, police say

A Daytona Beach man invited a woman waiting for a friend in the park to his apartment and then raped her, police said.

Harold Fletcher, 66, told the woman at Joe Harris Park on Pearl Street that she could come to his apartment and wait there until her friend got off work, Daytona Beach police said.

Fletcher was charged with unlawful imprisonment and assault and was being held without bail Monday in the Volusia County Branch Jail.

When he arrived at Fletcher’s apartment, he asked the woman to come to his room, where he gave her a glass of water and let her charge her cell phone, police said.

After a while, the victim began to feel uncomfortable and tried to leave, but Fletcher stopped her and closed the door, the arrest report said.

“The male walked to the door, put his hand on it and closed the door while saying, ‘That’s not how it works.’ He reminded (the victim) that he had given her water and allowed her to charge her phone,” police wrote in their report.

Fletcher asked the victim if she was a cop or a snitch and told her that his job involves “killing people,” which the victim interpreted as killing people. Fletcher told the woman that if she went to the police, she would “be gone,” investigators said.

Out of fear, the woman gave in to his sexual demands against her will, investigators said.
