Woman seen stealing baseball bats and hiding them in her skirt

A baseball and softball training center is asking for help identifying a woman caught on video stealing several bats.

It happened at D-BAT in Huntersville. The company posted a video of the theft on social media on Wednesday.

The surveillance video shows the woman hiding all the bats in her skirt.

“There were just piles of bats up her skirt,” said D-BAT employee Cam McCord.

McCord told Channel 9 he was working the front desk at the time of this incident. He said another woman deliberately distracted him while the thefts were taking place.

He said they came away with 17 bats worth more than $6,000.

“It’s expensive equipment; we are a smaller facility and we are here like a family. We’re all behind each other, and it’s kind of a mess; they stole from a place like this,” McCord explained.

However, it appears the Huntersville story isn’t the only one affected. The same women also appear to have hit the D-BAT in Concord.

“Hopefully they will be prosecuted,” said Ryan Query, general manager of D-BAT.

Query told Channel 9 that the women got away with at least eight batons. Video from inside the store captured one of the women in a giant gray skirt, and as she leaves you can see what appears to be the outline of bats.

D-Bats regularly organizes training and camps for baseball and softball players of all levels. So Query said it’s sad that someone would target them.

“We don’t want to create that fear. This is a family business where the children come to practice this so it is a place where they can enjoy the game,” Query explains.

At least 11 D-BATs across the country have committed these types of robberies, including one at a location in Indian Trail.

D-BAT asked anyone with information about these incidents to contact Huntersville Police.
