A police officer fatally shot a woman Tuesday evening in the Edgewater area, a block from Biscayne Boulevard, Miami police said.
A man who identified himself as her roommate told Miami Herald news partner CBSNews that she had charged police with a knife and had been dealing with mental health issues. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, as usual.
A 911 call brought police to the area of Northeast 25th Street and Second Avenue in Edgewater around 11 p.m. Hamid Hamidi said he called after his roommate of just over a month threatened him with a knife.
While talking to police, “she suddenly charged at them with a knife, I could see that in the shadows,” Hamidi said. “And that’s when they had to defend themselves because they gave her many warnings, you know, stop, and please don’t come forward and stuff like that, and she just charged at them and she got shot.”
