Tiger Woods and his 15-year-old son Charlie were tied at the end of the first day of the PNC Championship in Orlando.

The pair scored a 59 in the opening round and are at 13 under, along with Bernhard Langer and his son Jason Langer, as well as Vijay Singh and his son Qass.

The 36-hole practice tournament, in which current and former professional golfers play with a parent or child, concludes on Sunday.

Tiger Woods, a 15-time major winner, and Charlie are making their fifth appearance at the annual event, which also features golf carts for players to use.

The duo finished in fifth place last year, after finishing second in 2021.

“It’s a battle, so we’re trying to make every shot for each other,” Tiger Woods, 48, said.

“I think we did great pretty much all day. Charlie pretty much made the most putts today.”

Charlie Woods added: “I didn’t do a great job, but Dad saved me a few and I rolled them in.”

Tiger Woods is playing for the first time since The Open in July – where he failed to make the cut for a third consecutive major – after undergoing back surgery in September.

“I’m not competitive right now,” Woods said on the PGA Tour website on Friday. “But I just want to be able to relive the experience.”

Asked about an occasion when he was beaten by Charlie, he added: “Yes, he beat me for nine holes.

“He still has to beat me for eighteen holes. That day is coming, I’ll extend it as long as I can.”
