The Yankees and Trent Grisham They avoided arbitration on Friday when they agreed to a one-year contract. The deal is worth $5 million, according to a report from ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.
Grisham, 28, “could earn another $250,000 in bonuses tied to at-bats,” Castillo added.
New York announced that it also agreed to a one-year contract with the right-handed pitcher JT Brubaker while he was a non-tender infielder Jon Berti and left-handed pitcher Tim Mayza.
Grisham was acquired from the San Diego Padres on December 6, 2023 in the Juan Soto trade.
In 76 games, Grisham slashed .190/.290/.385 with nine home runs and 31 RBI.
Grisham was a two-time Gold Glove Award winner (2020, 2022) while slashing .214/.315/.381 with 55 home runs and 191 RBI as a Padre from 2020-23.
He began his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, who selected him with the No. 15 overall pick of the 2015 MLB Draft. Grisham made his debut on August 1, 2019, slashing .231/.328/.410 with six home runs and 24 RBI in 51 games .
