The Yankees have declined their 2025 club option for RHP Lou Trivino on Sunday, making the 33-year-old a free agent.
Trivino was acquired by the Yankees at the trade deadline on August 1, 2022, along with pitcher Frankie Montas of the Oakland A’s.
He went 1-2 with a 1.66 ERA, 22 strikeouts and one save in 21.2 innings over 25 appearances with New York during the 2022 season.
Trivino then avoided arbitration by signing a one-year contract with the team in November of that year. He suffered an elbow injury prior to the 2023 season and ultimately underwent Tommy John surgery in May, causing him to miss the entire season.
The right-hander was non-tendered by the team this offseason, but later agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with a $5 million club option for 2025 ahead of the 2024 season in February.
Trivino never pitched for the Yankees during the year, as he remained in the minors, splitting time between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He owned a 4.91 ERA over 11 appearances in the minors, recording 11 strikeouts over 11.0 IP.
