Yankees trade C Carlos Narváez to Red Sox for minor league RHP Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz, bonus pool money

It’s a rare division rival trade.

The Yankees have traded catchers Carlos Narvaez to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a minor league right-hander Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and international signing bonus pool money.

Narváez was called up to serve as Austin Wells‘ backup when Jose Trevino went down with an injury last season and was given limited opportunities, recording only three goals in his first thirteen games in the big league.

The young man had been involved with the organization since 2016.

He had a lot of success in this year’s Winter League, hitting seven home runs and five doubles while posting a strong 1.115 OPS in 23 games.

Rodriguez-Cruz is Boston’s No. 13 pick and he’s a 21-year-old right-hander who threw to a 2.31 at two levels of the minors last season.

The additional bonus money could potentially help New York in its pursuit of the Japanese right-hander Roki Sasakiwho was officially placed with MLB teams during the Winter Meetings.
