The Yankees will have a new backup catcher entering the 2025 season as the team announced Friday they have traded veteran Jose Trevino to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for reliever Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson.
Trevino, who joined the Yankees in a deal with the Texas Rangers in 2022, played a total of 243 games as a primary backup, slashing .230/.279/.361 with 23 home runs, 21 doubles and 86 RBI. New York appreciated his work behind the plate, however, as his positioning and fielding helped him earn a Gold Glove and All-Star appearance three seasons ago.
