Yankees vs. Dodgers Game 2 score, live updates: Los Angeles looks to take a 2-0 lead after Freddie Freeman’s epic game winner

If the Yankees and Dodgers can come close to matching the drama and excitement of Game 1 in this World Series, baseball fans will rejoice. Freddie Freeman’s epic walk-off grand slam that lifted the Dodgers to a 6-3 victory and a 1-0 series lead was the first walk-off grand slam in the World Series, and it came on the very first pitch from Nestor. Cortes threw at him.

While the good news for the Dodgers is that they are up 1-0 in the World Series, thanks to Freeman’s epic Kirk Gibson impression (with Joe Davis providing his Vin Scully nod), the good news for the Yankees is that it only counts for one, and New York can still grab home field advantage in the series with a win on Saturday.

Carlos Rodón (1-1, 4.40 ERA, 14.1 IP 22 K, 1 BB in 2024 postseason) will start for the Yankees against Yoshinobu Yamamoto (1-0, 5.11 ERA, 12.1 IP, 11 K, 4 BB) for the Dodgers.

Live19 updates

  • Edman again!

What a trade deadline acquisition Tommy Edman has become for the Dodgers.

Remember, he came to LA along with Michael Kopech in the three-way trade with the White Sox and Cardinals.

  • Dodgers 1, Yankees 0

Tommy Edman against lefties: a very good hitter. The NLCS MVP hits a homer to left field and the Dodgers get up early in Game 2.

  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto throws a scoreless second inning and is now at 35 pitches. He’s been in deep trouble and has allowed a few walks, but no decent contact from the Yankees yet. He has also only thrown two splitters.

  • Freddie Freeman received a nice ovation as he returned to the plate before popping out to end the inning.

  • And that’s a scoreless first inning for Carlos Rodón with three outs in the air. Mookie Betts got the first hit of the game on an opposite field line drive, but that was it. 13 places for Rodón.

  • The first three Yankees hitters worked completely against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but he provided the heart of the lineup, including a strikeout of Aaron Judge, to spark a scoreless first inning. He has 21 pitches through four batters, but the Dodgers generally care more about run prevention than length.

  • Can the Yankees go for a walk tonight?

The entire World Series Game 1 featured only two unintentional walks: a Juan Soto BB in the first inning and Gavin Lux’s crucial free pass in the bottom of the 10th, giving the Dodgers’ top brass a chance to run things away. Game 2’s leadoff hitter, Gleyber Torres, just walked to start the night. That’s a key for the Yanks, who ran 70 times more than any other club this year.

  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto fires a 90 mph fastball to Gleyber Torres, and we move on to Game 2 of the 2024 World Series after a four-minute Ice Cube delay.

Can the Dodgers take a 2-0 lead as the series heads to New York, or will the Yankees take stock and steal home field advantage? Let’s find out.

  • Dave Roberts was also a fan.

  • Ice Cube is now rapping in the Dodger Stadium outfield. Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo seems to be having a good time.

  • A pregame show with three former players, all retired in 2014 or later, either not knowing what resistance bands are or pretending not to know what they are is an odd sight. A few minutes ago they were watching Carlos Rodón warm up with them.

  • Some notes on the lineups: It’s the exact same lineup as yesterday for the Yankees, while the Dodgers have done some reshuffling to prepare for left-handed NYY starter Carlos Rodón after facing right-hander Gerrit Cole.

Tommy Edman, a left-handed masher, moved from ninth to fifth in the lineup and also moves to center field, while Kiké Hernández moves to second base and left-hander Gavin Lux sits. Miguel Rojas, who missed the NLCS with a leg injury, will get his first start at shortstop.

Game 1 hero Freddie Freeman also switched from third to cleanup with Teoscar Hernández.

  • Game 2 starting lineups

Carlos Rodón takes on Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
