Construction and development company YIT has signed a €100 million ($104.24 million) deal with XTX Markets to build a new data center in Kajaani, Finland.
The new facility, estimated to cover 15,000 m², will include a data hall building, a staff office building and a maintenance building, all located within the campus area.
Algorithmic trading company XTX Markets uses advanced machine learning technology to predict prices for more than 50,000 financial instruments. The entity’s decision to build its large-scale data center in Kajaani is aimed at improving its computing capabilities for the future.
The project is expected to be included in YIT’s order book for the last quarter of 2024.
YIT Infrastructure segment executive vice president Aleksi Laine said: “We are pleased to sign this agreement and launch this exciting data center project in close collaboration with XTX Markets. This is the latest chapter of YIT’s strong experience in carrying out major industrial construction projects in Finland.
“Receiving a contract for a construction project of this scale from a major international company is a testament to our project management capabilities and our industry-leading technical expertise. Overall, an investment of this size from XTX Markets is a substantial boost for the local Kajaani region and further evidence of Finland’s excellent offering as an investment destination for large-scale data center projects.”
Earlier this month, YIT signed a €105 million project management contract with Hitachi Energy for the construction of a new manufacturing and technology center in Mustasaari, Finland.
Last month, YIT was also chosen as a partner, alongside NRC Group, Sitowise and Sweco, for the development phase of the Helsinki Urban Development and Tramway Program Alliance.
