PETERSBURG – State police say a teenager arrested early Thursday after a chase from Hopewell to Petersburg was also wanted for previous car thefts.
The minor — a 14-year-old female — was taken into custody after she allegedly led authorities on a chase that ended when the car struck a state police cruiser that was in traffic control along Crater Road, said spokesman Matt Demlein. state police in an email. A 16-year-old passenger who was in the car was also arrested.
It started when Prince George’s police tried to stop the vehicle for reckless driving. The driver refused to stop and continued into Hopewell, where that city’s police attempted to stop the car.
At that point, a pursuit began west on State Route 36 into Petersburg, where state troopers became involved.
The chase ended when the car turned the wrong way onto Crater Road and struck the left front bumper of the state police car. The driver fled, but was later tracked by police dogs.
She was initially taken to Bon Secours Southside Medical Center in Petersburg for treatment of injuries and subsequently charged.
No one else was injured, including the officer working traffic control.
Demlein said the driver has been linked to previous car thefts in Petersburg.
The investigation continues.
