Many residents were displaced and a firefighter was rescued Saturday morning after a two-alarm fire at a home in Ocean City, New Jersey, the Ocean City Fire Department said.
Fire officials said crews responded to a report of a fire in a building near East 16th Street and West Avenue before 8:30 a.m. The initial 911 call indicated two people were believed to be trapped, officials said.
One person was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and one firefighter was rescued from a second-floor deck after a propane tank valve failed, causing a dramatic fire, the news release said.
All residents were able to leave the home safely.
The flames have been upgraded to a 2-alarm fire after crews reported a large fire in the rear of the house.
The fire was under control around 9:14 a.m. and five people were displaced, according to fire officials.
The firefighter was not injured and the Margate City Fire Department, Marmora Volunteer Fire Company and Upper Township EMS provided assistance.
The Red Cross and the Ocean City Office of Emergency Management are assisting displaced residents with shelter.
Ocean City Fire, Ocean City Police and Cape May County Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating the incident.
