About a mile of Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades was closed Friday due to a 7,500-gallon sewage spill.

Los Angeles County Public Health Department officials have closed the seawater a half mile north and a half mile south of Sunset Boulevard due to contamination from the oil spill.

The city’s public health department alerted the public health department to a sewage spill at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Paseo Miramar.

The report said the spill was caused by a root blockage, which caused 7,000 gallons of sewage to enter the storm drain and flow into the ocean via Sunset Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades.

Health officials are warning beachgoers to stay out of the water in the affected area and avoid contact with wet sand.

The Public Health Service will take water samples and if two test results show that the bacteria levels meet health standards, the warning will be lifted.
