(CBS DETROIT) – A 60-year-old Michigan man has been charged with assaulting his 95-year-old mother, killing her, officials said.
John Miko was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault on a vulnerable adult, and assault by strangulation for the death of his mother, Clara Miko.
Clara Miko called 911 around midnight on Saturday, July 27, reporting that she had been repeatedly attacked by her son. She told the operator that he was going to kill her.
Officers arrived at the woman’s home in Denton Township and found her lying on the floor of her garage apartment, unable to move and suffering from serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
They spoke to the victim about the incident before she was taken to a local hospital. Clara Miko died later that day from her injuries.
John Miko was found in the main residence. He was reportedly drunk and uncooperative with police.
Investigators also discovered that John Miko was still on active probation for a previous domestic violence attempt.
He was arrested and booked into the county jail, where he remains in custody on $100,000,000 bail.
